Welcome to Readfield Elementary School’s
new web site!
I am Cheryl Hasenfus, principal of Readfield Elementary School, which is a K – 5 school located on the South Road in Readfield, Maine. Readfield, a community of approximately 2700 people, surrounds the northern end of beautiful Maranacook Lake, about 10 miles from Maine’s capital city of Augusta.
We have much to be proud of here at RES. First, and foremost, we live in a community where the townspeople and school committee are very supportive of education. Our school facility is maintained in order to remain a place for community to use, both during the school day as well as in the evenings. Also because of this support, we have a new playground. Fund-raising for this playground was a community effort, through many donations, as well as grant-writing by community members. The Readfield Elementary School Committee is also very supportive of education.
Readfield Elementary School has approximately 200 students. A variety of programming options are available to meet the individual needs of each child. In the primary grades, parents may choose from a regular first and second grade program or a multiage program. Grades 3 – 5 offer many opportunities for team teaching experiences. We also offer additional programming such as French instruction at all grade levels; vocal and instrumental music; art; and physical education. A fully equipped and networked computer lab further supplements instruction. Read more about our exciting programming in our Student Handbook.
Readfield Elementary offers many opportunities to learn, even after regular school hours. Students may take part in after-school programs, such as drumming, knitting, and cross-stitching. Other programs, such as the “Family Helper Class,” “Yearbook,” “Come Grow a Permanent Garden,” and “Odyssey of the Mind,” allow students many opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge.
We also offer an Afterschool Daycare Program. This daycare is based on promoting a safe, happy, and creative atmosphere for students. Child-based, structured activities are offered along with ample time for free play. Arts and crafts, homework help, board games, cooking, window painting, building projects, and time with friends are some of the activities that the children enjoy during this afterschool time. This program was establishing in 1995 and is a state-licensed facility. Staff members are CPR certified and trained in early childhood development.
Our active parent organization, REPA, works hard each year to provide a myriad of enrichment activities for our students. These include many field trips, as well as artist-in-residence programs. Further, annually, more than 200 volunteers assist our staff in a variety of ways.
We are very proud of our school and our students!
